Bridging the Gap: From Xero to Business Central
Xero and Business Central handle posted transactions fundamentally differently. Xero lets you edit or delete a posted transaction directly; Business Central treats posted entries as immutable and requires a correcting entry instead. That's not a limitation — it's a stronger audit trail — but it changes how your team needs to work.
The other major shift is Dimensions versus Tracking Categories. Xero's two tracking categories map conceptually to Business Central's Dimensions, but BC supports far more of them and lets you enforce which combinations are valid — worth designing properly before migration, not bolting on afterward.
Historical data migration is where most Xero-to-BC projects either succeed or quietly create years of reconciliation headaches. We typically migrate open balances and a defined lookback period of detailed transactions, with full historical detail kept accessible in an archive rather than force-fit into the new system.
