Visualizing ROI: The Marketing Dashboard You Need

N
NevinPower BI & Marketing · December 15, 2024

A marketing dashboard built on a proper star schema — separate fact and dimension tables for campaigns, leads, and revenue — is the difference between a report that looks impressive and one your CFO actually trusts. Flat, denormalized exports don't scale past a handful of campaigns.

Customer Acquisition Cost only means something when it's calculated consistently — fully loaded (including ad spend, tooling, and a fair share of team time) and segmented by channel, not blended into one misleading average.

Marketing Influenced Pipeline and Lead Velocity are the two metrics that tell you whether this quarter is going to be good before the quarter ends, rather than after. Both require clean stage-change timestamps in your CRM, which is worth fixing before you build the dashboard on top of it.

None of it works without UTM discipline. A single inconsistently-tagged campaign link can quietly corrupt an entire channel's attribution — enforce a UTM naming convention before launch, not as cleanup afterward.
